{Stairs: The Heart of Interior Design
Stairway designs are crucial in architecture, serving as both a practical requirement and a architectural highlight. Staircases are available in many styles, each with its own benefits and design potential. From small Spiral stairs to grand Curved designs, there’s a stairway to fit any space or vision.
{U-Shaped Stairway Designs: Ideal for Grand Spaces
This design of stair features two flights of treads connected by a landing that turns halfway. This style is typically seen in expansive homes or structures with ample upward dimensions. This option is remarkably compact, making it a functional choice for grand spaces. A landing in the midway point of the stairway design can be used for both pausing and decoration. This design is connected to opulence and is a common choice in high-end or traditional homes.
{Curved Staircases: A Masterpiece in Design
These stairs are celebrated for their graceful, curved design that sweeps seamlessly upward. Curved stairs are more user-friendly than Spiral ones, as their gradual arc makes them simpler to climb. Curved staircases are a favoured choice in spacious residences, classic buildings, or luxury hotels for their striking impact. The building process for Curved stairs is complex and typically comes with a greater price tag. Despite the expense, Curved staircases create a magnificent centrepiece that enhances any interior.
{Why Floating Staircases Are a Contemporary Favourite
A Floating staircase is known by its clean design, creating the appearance of steps floating in air. The floating effect is created by anchoring the treads to a hidden support, removing bulky supports. Floating staircases are common in modern homes, where they contribute to an airy atmosphere. The absence of obtrusive supports ensures that other decorations, such as artwork, can stand out. Floating stairs are eye-catching but require precise engineering to ensure they are secure and reliable.
{Spiral Stairs: Ideal for Small Spaces
The design of Spiral stairway designs involves treads that wind around a supporting column in a circular pattern. This option is great for small spaces, such as outdoor areas, where a traditional stairway design might not fit. Spiral stairway designs are available in materials like glass, providing numerous aesthetic flexibility. Spiral stairs are compact but can be difficult to use for those with mobility concerns or bulky objects. Spiral stairs are favoured for their creative design, which adds personality to any space.
{Bifurcated Staircases: A Masterpiece in Architecture
Bifurcated stairway designs are a grand and harmonious design often seen in large homes or commercial spaces. This style features a main flight of steps that divides into two matching flights at a landing, typically curving in contrasting angles. Bifurcated staircases are recognised for their imposing and impressive presence, making them a popular choice for entryways. The symmetrical design ensures a harmonious appearance, often accentuated by ornate railings or chandeliers. Although they need significant space and a more significant budget, Bifurcated stairs are a timeless symbol of sophistication.
{Why Staircases Continue to Be a Essential Stylish Feature
Beyond their purpose, staircases are a example of design innovation and artistry. With options ranging from modern and sleek to classic and rustic, staircases offer countless potential for customisation. No matter the time period, staircases will continue to be a key feature of how we experience and enjoy spaces.
Thousands of homes could have 'unsafe staircases'
Thousands of council homes could have potentially dangerous staircases which need to be replaced.
Newcastle City Council said more than 3,000 homes and 57 block of flats have staircases with horizontal guarding which can pose a risk to children climbing up the panels and either falling or becoming trapped.
The authority said the design, now banned under modern building standards, was a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
